Increasing costs of fuel, global warming and the drive to reduce our carbon footprint and not harm the atmosphere are driving us all to make our buildings Eco-friendly. We are all becoming more aware of the need to improve our existing housing stock and construct new housing to much higher standards than those used in the past.
Ecological construction or green construction as it is commonly referred to, starts with good design that ensures that the building not only requires minimal energy input to the products used in the construction as well as during the construction process, but also whilst living in it and ensuring that thought has gone into the design to reduce the energy that is required to maintain the building in the future.
Sustainable Construction is about developments meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Put simply, making sure future generations have a decent world to live in.

Thermographic Surveying (Thermography) is an excellent tool for revealing defects as well as proving excellent performance levels. We construct buildings to keep us warm and dry, but alas, mistakes are made at all levels of the construction process from concept, through design, construction and performance.
The use of Infra Red Photography allows us to visually see and record the levels of comfort we would like to achieve, or the discomfort that we might experience from simple building defects to complex design and construction mistakes. Where once, the only solution was invasive investigation, we are now often able to photograph or video in Infra red areas of whole structures and record information on the patterns, distribution and differences in temperature.
This information can sometimes singularly, but more often in conjunction with other readings , give sufficient information for us to arrive at a conclusion as to the buildings performance levels and/or defects.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT & SELF BUILD
Aspectum offer a full Construction Project Management service. Whatever your project, from building conservation, refurbishment, fitting out, major repairs, new builds and Grand Designs, we tailor our project management services to suit each client.
We believe that it is important for the client to be in control of their project at all times. we interpret your requirements and ensure that the site team works to them. We are happy to take on as much responsibility for the project as the client wishes for us to have
We can advise on all requirements from site location, health and safety, which designers, engineers etc. might give you the result you require. Our aim is to solve the problems with solutions to suit your budget.
A typical project will start with a brief which is honed and tweaked. A designer might already be on board, but if not, we can appoint and manage the design process to ensure that the brief is interpreted correctly, or adjusted in consultation with you to satisfy CDM Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.
The next part is to produce a cost plan. We might do this for you, use your Quantity Surveyor(s) or appoint a QS firm depending on the size of your project. We endeavour to provide a very tight control over costs and your budget and keep you informed of anticipated over or under spends. Grand designs are all well and good but budgetary controls become more important.
Next we will discuss the best procurement route and prepare the contract documentation for your chosen method of contract with the appointed contractor. Your contractor must have the appropriate expertise and experience, sufficient resources to fund the work, a good track record, appropriately skilled workforce or sub contractors, the ability to supervise their workforce properly and above all, you have to like and trust them.
PARTY WALL SURVEYING
When planning any works to a party wall, boundary wall adjacent to or shared with a neighbour it is important to take note of the Party Wall Act 1996. We have had to assist clients that have started out on the route of construction, not taken note of the act and found that their works have had to be stopped because of complaints from their neighbour. It is important to serve a party wall notice where appropriate on your neighbour in the prescribed manner. We are happy to assist you at whatever level or state of commencement of works to ensure that your building contract runs smoothly.
